Children with a Disability

Select a Neighborhood
Measurement Period: 2018-2022
This indicator shows the percentage of children less than 18 years old that are limited in any activities because of physical, mental, or emotional problems.

Why is this important?

Children with a disability have difficulties performing activities due to a physical, mental, or emotional condition. The extent to which a child is limited by a disability is heavily dependent on the social and physical environment in which he or she lives. According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than six million children with disabilities receive special education and related services annually through their school system. As children with disabilities approach adulthood, they may have difficulties living independently or fulfilling work responsibilities without sufficient accommodations.
